Black seed (kalinji)

Description

Black cherry (kalindzhi) is a popular spice with many names. It is often referred to as "black cumin", "nigella" and "Roman coriander". The height of this annual plant of the Buttercup family can reach thirty centimeters. It begins to bloom, as a rule, in May, and in August the fruits ripen. They are small boxes, inside of which the famous spice kalinji is contained in the form of small triangular black seeds (see photo). This famous spice has a delicate pungent taste and rich aroma, which contains notes of black pepper, nutmeg and strawberries.
