About 18.5 million tons of fruits and vegetables are grown annually in Uzbekistan. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this year the country plans to produce over 9.5 million tons of vegetables, 2.7 million tons of fruits, 2.6 million tons of potatoes, about 1.8 million tons of melons, 1.5 million tons of grapes. Currently, Uzbekistan is implementing the Concept for ensuring healthy nutrition for the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2015-2020, according to which the population’s consumption of fruits and vegetables should increase by 15 percent in 5 years. It is aimed at preventing and reducing the prevalence of diseases associated with poor nutrition, organizing widespread awareness-raising work in this area, improving the regulatory framework, introducing effective quality control mechanisms, and more.
